Overwhelmed and Underprepared

Well, this is it and I can't write much because I have to be up at 7 for my first OFFICIAL day as a NYC teacher.

I'm excited.

But on the verge of tears.

My room is a mess with all my papers and lesson plans and books.

I'm just scared I won't cut it.

But it seems that every time I think I can't climb that mountain (thank you robert ballard, you boring bastard) I've reached the top before I know it. I just think this is going to be my longest climb yet.

I think the trick is to ACT like I can do it. To PRETEND I am 150% confident, because somewhere along the way, hopefully, I'll earn it.

Ok, I have to type out the mini-unit I devised for my first two weeks of World History.

Here goes nothing...

do not fret my pet!! I am sure that your first day today went wonderfully and youll realize you were thinking about it too too much...and yes, confidence is key. if you act like you can do it, then you will be able to do it. Love you!! I bet you kicked ass

The one piece of advice I keep recieving about teaching is to always stay one step ahead of the students. You don't need to have it all figured out from the start and as long as you stay that one step ahead everything will fall into place. Good luck and let us know how things go!

HEY!!! Be nice to Bobby B. as I like to call him... I loved that speech and I did not miss a beat. Remember although we get up and go to bed at the same time it takes more days to get to the top of bigger mountains! Good luck!!

I don't know how to reply to people individually, but thank you all for the love!!

emily--i've been in westchester! i'll call you tomorrow???? I missssss youuuuuu!

mollie--i do not love you. make no mistake about that.

kim--the one step ahead thing does seem to be the trick. how is your lesson-planning going, when do you start?

justin--Bobby B, as you kindly called him, made me want to scratch my eyes out with that little sappling we got. i can't believe he didn't even talk ab out the TITANIC.

anyways, i love you all and thanks for your support. It means a lot to hear it! love--a
