I'm a Spartan (Don't laugh)

So after attempting to post since last weekend, I've finally figured it out...well, no, amanda explained how to do it. and thank god, because i would NEVER have figured out how to put the old blog account w/ the new google account.

I finally went out to Michigan last weekend to go see where i'm going to be living next year and the school all be going to. I'm happy to say, i was VERY VERY pleasantly surprised! The law school building is absolutely gorgeous, everything from financial aid to career services is all in the same building which is going make life a little less crazy. The campus is great thou, lots of green with brick and white buildings, and the downtown is really cute -- lots of restaurants and shops. The rest of the town is very nice and residential. But i still have to figure out wtf i'm going to do for housing next year...my parents vote to live in the graduate dorms, but i'd rather die. We'll see how it all plays out by the end of the summer.

So yeah...I'm a Spartan (the photos are of the law building and the football stadium). I'm just very excited for the change of a Big 10 school, it'll def. be a huge change from Conn.

In other news, I'm back lifeguarding at Farmington Woods (a crazy condo complex full of senior citizens and young families) and the fun has already begun. It's actually a great summer job, the people are good -- for the most part -- and this year we've got a new boss, so it's shaping up to be a sweet summer.

I think that's all for now, I'll keep you posted as to when I'm moving out to the mid-west. Hope everybody had a wonderful graduation and is enjoying their first weeks of summer.

Miss you all tons,

Emily

Well, I guess college really did end, didn't it? The transition from hectic finals and teary goodbyes to sleeping until 1:30 everyday and playing the Sims 2 hasn't been difficult per se, but it really has made me realize something. I'm sure you all remember answering "where are you going to college? What's your major going to be?" eight thousand times to complete strangers during our senior year of high school. Well, one of those strangers remarked that the friends you make in college are the ones you'll have for the rest of your life. "Bullshit!" I said in my head, "I've known my home buddies for 12 or so years, how can four lousy years compare to that?"

Well I don't know if it was the developmental stage in our lives, the similar academic prowess, or our inescapably close proximity to each other, but something there really made a difference, and I might dare say that stranger was onto something.

Anyway, in the style of the other posts I'll just say I've been doing little besides remembering how much driving complicates drinking. Nick and Mollie were in town the other night and we saw "Shortbus", a movie about a fictional underground sex club in NYC, to which Nick's post movie comment was "I gotta find this place!" We then went briefly to a nearby bar with a live band in which we witnessed a classic dick move: Mid set, one of the bald, tight black jean wearing guys at the bar apparently didn't like the live music, so he put on the jukebox which effectively stopped the band mid song. The guy then goes outside to have a cigarette, not even listening to the stupid ACDC he just ruined the live set with.

Well, I don't know about you guys but I can't wait to get out into the real world with more people like this! Anyway, I gotta get back to The Sims 2, I've almost got one of my residents sleeping with the maid.

I can never think of a good title...

I'm pretty psyched - my dad and I went to hyundai today and we're trading in my car to get this one:

mine doesn't come with a sunroof though, unfortunately. but ain't she purrrdy? I pick 'er up on Friday morning.

Oh, and also I got my first email today from my grad school program, so I was able to scope out who the other people in it are (and no I did NOT stalk them on facebook...I swear) Anyways, including me, there are 9 gals and 5 guys, so should be a pretty nice group.

Anyway, I hope y'all are doing well (that's me starting in on southerner speech, lol) I hope I get to see most of you before I head down south...

trains planes and horse drawn carriages

Well, well New Jersey...we meet again. I see you haven't changed...

Yes, back in the Dirty Jersey for a while. Dear me do I miss Conn. I mean lord knows I love dear old mom, but I could do without the cross-house "JEEEHHAAANNNEEE! What IS thIS?" (insert heavy southern accent there). Anywho I've been making time pass, mainly by putting off unpacking. I was very New Jerseyan this weekend and headed to the shore for Memorial Day. One of my home friends noticed my necklace and said "WHY do you have a camel on your necklace?" It's little things like that that make you realize you're not in college anymore...when people don't understand why you would ever have a camel charm dangling from your necklace. Yes, so this is not the most exciting post, but hopefully there will be some more interesting ones to come. I hope all of you are doing well wherever thou mayest be. Miss you all!

Summer has begun

So I don't have much of anything to say yet, but I wanted to make sure we gave a good start to the summer (or, um, forever) with this blog.

Upon my arrival home from Kim's yesterday, I was amazed to see that the crappy old rooms we used to have surrounding our garage actually had the ability to turn into a beautiful apartment. It turns out my mom's been working on it for the past few weeks, and I got to move in! I feel so spoiled, but it's absolutely amazing to be able to live over here in some semblance of living on my own. It's kind of wonderful.

I'm having a nice time, but I'm definitely going through Conn withdrawl. I miss you guys a lot.

A lot.
Welcome back to the blog all! Thanks to Kaitlin for kickin it off. How have you all been doing being home?

I hope to see as many of you as I can this summer. And don't forget that Amanda and I are having a joint graduation party in southern Westchester on June 30th. Details are forthcoming. Hope to see a lot of you there!
